Poway Unified will open two elementary schools next year in the growing west side despite delays in the state approval process for one of them.
The two schools are set to open on one campus next fall after Del Sur Elementary is completed in August, said Superintendent Don Phillips. Willow Grove Elementary will also open on that campus because the new school in the southwestern area of the district won't be ready until at least December 2008, district officials said.
Poway Unified School District trustees heard the building update at Monday night's school board meeting.
Del Sur is expected to open with about 120 students, leaving plenty of room for Willow Grove students, Phillips said, as the school is being built to serve 800 students. The Del Sur community, west of Rancho Bernardo, is expected to grow as new housing is completed.
