Solar panels to be added to roofs of four schoolsSABRE SPRINGS -- In an effort to curb rising electric rates and promote green policy, the Poway Unified School District has agreed to open up space on the roofs of four schools to a private company looking to build solar panels on them.
On Monday, trustees signed off on an agreement with Honeywell Building Solution that allows the New Jersey-based company to install photovoltaic panels on the roofs of Chaparral Elementary, Oak Valley Middle, Poway High and Westview High schools. The district would purchase all of the energy produced by the panels for 20 years.
